Maruyama Park (Sapporo)
Maruyama Park is a large recreational park just 3km from downtown Sapporo. In May, it is covered in wonderful pink flowers from its 1,700 wild Hokkaido cherry trees, making it a popular place for hanami (flower viewing). The park is home to a green forest where you can have a nice walk. Do not forget to visit the 19th-century Hokkaido Shrine and Maruyama Zoo.

Goryokaku Park (Hakodate)
Built in 1866, Goryokaku Fort is a huge star-shaped fortress that looks like a European-style castle, surrounded by a moat. It is now a public park that is famous for sakura viewing in early May, when over 1,600 cherry trees along its moats bloom, creating a wonderful pink landscape. You can see this amazing star-shaped view from the observation platform at the top of the 107m-tall Goryokaku Tower.

Mitsui Outlet Park (Sapporo-Kitahiroshima)
The Mitsui Outlet Park is the largest outlet park in Hokkaido. It has approximately 130 stores from popular domestic and international brands (like Coach, Furla, etc) at reasonable prices. Duty-free shopping is available. After shopping, dine at the huge food court, or visit the “Hokkaido Local Farm Village” for its agricultural products. Mitsui Outlet Park is easily accessible from Sapporo and New Chitose Airport.

Hakodate Morning Market (Hakodate Asaichi)
The Hakodate Morning Market is located near the JR Hakodate Station. Here you can buy locally-grown produce (like Hokkaido’s famous melons) or freshly-caught seafood from the farmers and fishermen. This market has about 160 shops. You can find many things to buy and eat. There are also plenty of restaurants at the market where you can enjoy fresh seafood like uni-ikura donburi and have a chat with the locals.

Sobetsu Fruit Village (Sobetsu)
Enjoy picking (and eating) your own fruits direct from Sobetsu Fruit Village’s 21 individual orchards, which cultivate fruits ranging from strawberries and cherries to grapes and apples. Picking season varies depending on the fruit, which is generally from June to November. You can also purchase fresh juices and quality handmade preserves and jams right at the fruit farms.

Furano Cheese Factory (Furano)
If you like cheese, the Furano Cheese Factory is where you can see how cheese is made, and also sample unique products in their store, like the squid ink black cheese. There is also an ice cream parlour and pizzeria here where you can have a meal. You also participate in workshops where you can make your own butter, ice cream, cheese and bread – all made with fresh Furano milk.
